EST. 2020Research origins at KTH & Karolinska Institutet

Industrial ergonomics, rebuilt on biomechanical research.

Built on smart-workwear research from KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Karolinska Institutet, we develop tools to measure physical workload and support ergonomic training — with the people who do the work.

Our story

From a KTH lab to pilots on the shop floor.

Half of long-term sick leave in Europe is caused by musculoskeletal disorders. Much of it is preventable — if the risk is seen early enough.

For decades, ergonomic risk has been measured by sending an expert with a clipboard to watch a worker for an hour. The methods (RAMP, RULA, REBA) are sound. The sample size is not.

Wergonic turns every shift into a continuous, objective measurement. The research began in 2016 at KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Karolinska Institutet. Wergonic was founded in 2020 to develop a product from that work, and has kept developing it through research projects and pilots with industrial partners.

Wergonic use in research

Used to collect measurements in ergonomics research.

Wergonic smart workwear and software have been used to collect measurements in ergonomics research. Each study below describes the technology used, the setting, and the limits of its findings.

Measuring posture with smart workwear

A 2023 study compared sensors in a Wergonic shirt with sensors attached to the skin. Twelve participants performed five simulated work tasks. The authors found acceptable accuracy for group-level arm and trunk posture measurements, while reporting larger errors for some extreme angles and movements.

Measuring posture during working days

A 2026 field study used a Wergonic shirt and mobile app to record upper-arm and trunk postures across three working days. It analysed data from 124 older workers in construction, kitchens, cleaning and care.

A related 2026 paper used Wergonic software for data collection in the same broader HIPE research project.

Our approach

Deep tech, co-designed with industry.

Two pillars — rigorous biomechanical research, and hands-on collaboration with the people who actually do the work.

01

Deep tech foundation

We build on rigorous biomechanical research, not ergonomic checklists. Our methods build on peer-reviewed research and validation studies.

  • Inertial sensor fusion algorithms
  • On-device ML for pose classification
  • Real-time biomechanical analysis
  • Validated against reference measurement systems
02

Co-design philosophy

The best products come from being in the room with the people using them. Every feature ships because a worker, supervisor, or safety lead asked for it.

  • Worker feedback drives development
  • Industry partnerships ensure relevance
  • Academic rigor with KTH & Karolinska
  • Continuous iteration on the shop floor
